It has been a long time since a multi-tool created so much buzz in the EDC and knife community. Gerber has revamped the multi-tool and set a new standard.
The Gerber Center-Drive is the newest model from the Gerber USA made line set to release today, November 1st, 2016. The biggest edition to the multi-tool is a 1/4″ magnetic bit driver, that when folded out, is in line with the center axis of the multi-tool giving the most power and strength possible.
Another plus for the Gerber Center-Drive is a locking knife blade that Gerber is claiming to be 30% longer than any other multi-tool knives on the market. After looking up some other multi-tools like the Leatherman OHT, we are guessing the blade length is around 3.25″ long. The Center-Drive comes with the usual tools; needle nose pliers/regular pliers, serrated blade, awl, wire striper, wire cutter, stamped ruler, flat head bit, pry bar, file, bottle opener, and a phillips bit with the option to purchase addition bits to fit in the 1/4″ driver.
Gerber is advertising the pliers as 1 thumb deploying, meaning these will be much easier than their older, “pinch and slide” pliers. Also the pliers are spring loaded making one handed operation a breeze. The Center-Drive is going to be one of the new “must haves” for hands on guys.
